Post a Gender Neutral Bathroom sign to identify handicapped accessible all gender and unisex restrooms in your building.
All gender, gender neutral, and unisex restrooms can by used by anyone. In the last decade, the quantity of all gender restrooms in the U.S. has significantly increased. This change in bathroom regulation and identification recognizes transgender, gender fluid, and gender non-conforming individuals. It also benefits families with children and those with disabilities who may need assistance from a differently-gendered caretaker. Unsurprisingly, even a short amount of time has shown that gender neutral restrooms signal a positive, non-discriminatory environment and create a more welcoming atmosphere.
Green Dot Sign’s standard All Gender Restroom signs contain the most common Gender Neutral restroom pictogram, with the male and female icons. Reach out if you would like a Unisex Restroom sign with a different pictogram. Simple sign design changes can often be made quickly and at no extra cost.
This Gender Neutral Restroom sign contains the modified or active International Symbol of Accessibility (ISA or person in a wheelchair pictogram). In New York and Connecticut, the modified ISA is required. Additionally, in many other U.S. jurisdictions the modified ISA is acceptable. While many prefer the feel of the modified ISA, we recommend confirming ISA requirements with your local building inspector before ordering accessibility signs. See more All Gender Bathroom signage and ADA Restroom sign options and learn when to use the traditional ISA versus the modified ISA on our Restroom signs category page.
MORE GENDER NEUTRAL BATHROOM SIGN PICTOGRAM OPTIONS
The ADA does not require restroom signs to contain pictogram. However, pictograms are highly recommended for restrooms because they facilitate quick identification and guide non-English speakers. Bathrooms signs are required to comply with ADA character and braille requirements. Additionally, facilities that are handicap accessible should be identified with an ISA.
Here are some All Gender Restroom signage options to consider.
1. Traditionally, a hybrid half-female, half-male symbol has been used to mark unisex bathrooms. However, this image reinforces gender as binary.
2. A female and male pictogram is also quite common for gender neutral restrooms. While this image clearly indicates that a facility can be used by either gender, it does not specifically address transgender individuals.
3. More recently, the transgender symbol has also been used for single-stall bathroom identification. However, this symbol may not be universally recognized.
4. Surveys have found that those who use all unisex bathrooms prefer ADA signage with a toilet pictogram. This image communicates a room’s purpose and does not place assumptions around users’ identity.

EASY SIGN INSTALLATION
Foam tape or wood pegs
Many clients order ADA Gender Neutral Restroom signs with foam tape, in which case your signs arrive with double sided foam tape pre-applied. To install your signs, simply remove tape backers, apply a circle of silicone and press your sign against the wall or door for 5 seconds.
For sturdier sign installation or highly textured surfaces, order signs with wood pegs. While installing signs with wood pegs requires drilling wall holes, it is more secure.
If you plan to install your All Gender Restroom signs using the four peg installation approach and don’t want to run to the hardware store, add our installation kit to your order.
If your Unisex Restroom sign is being applied to glass, just let us know and we’ll provide a thin wood backer for a nominal fee. A backer on the other side of the glass covers up foam tape for a polished look.
